Amplify Northern Ireland is a movement facilitated by The Young Foundation to help communities across Northern Ireland tackle inequality.
We worked with The Young Foundation throughout their project to help communicate the narratives that had emerged from months of research and dialogue with people living in Belfast, Derry-Londonderry and Enniskillen.
Creating the identity
We set out creating a brand identity for the AmplifyNI movement which would help unite all of the individuals involved in the project. A brand values workshop helped the team identify why Amplify exists and what they believe in. These values become a criteria to which all communications moving forward must align with.
The identity reflects transformation, freedom and energy. We created a brand identity style guide to support consistency.
As part of this stage we established a colour palette and typographic style that sat alongside logo usage rules in the Brand Identity Guidelines.
After months of research with local communities The Young Foundation arrived at different themes that reflected the stories of change emerging from each place in Northern Ireland. The challenge was to visualise these themes in a way that audiences could understand and feedback on.
Our solution was a set of eight A0 boards each focussing on a different theme. The visual language had to inspire fluid conversation and give a sense of openness; we used soft organic textures, the typographic style is informal and conversational, the authentically styled illustrations are based on real people who contributed to the research.
Summarising 12 months worth of research
The final part of our role in the project was to create an online platform that summarised the project since it’s start date in November 2014. We worked with the brilliant developers at BrightMinded to create an online storytelling tool. The website explores the AmplifyNI journey so far, the unique narratives the project uncovered and the amazing people and projects discovered along the way.
05 go way beyond being just a design agency. I'd consider them a brand development agency that’s also able to do kick-ass design.
